Research Interests

Dr. Bergin's research focuses on the risk of infection and thrombosis and the transition to transplantation in patients with ventricular assist devices.

Research Description

Pathophysiology and treatment of congestive heart failure, transplant, left ventricular assist device (LVAD), and general cardiology.

Principal Investigator. Medtronic REDUCE Heart Failure Study - Reducing Decompensation Events Utilizing Intracardiac Pressures in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure / Chronicle ICD. The study utilizes an extra ICD lead for measuring pulmonary pressures in patients with heart failure
Co-Investigator. ICD use was associated with reduced mortality in both ischemic and nonischemic cardiomyopathy and in patients with implantable defibrillators: mortality data and mechanistic insights from the Sudden Cardiac Death in Heart Failure Trial (SCD-HeFT).
Co-Investigator. Rationale and Design of the Multicenter, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Vasopressin Antagonism in Heart Failure: Outcome Study with Tolvaptan (EVEREST)
