Hi! My name is Mackenzi Oswald. I grew up in Washington State in the suburban town of Marysville, but I most recently moved to Charlottesville after living in Seattle. I graduated from Everett Community College in 2017, with an Associate in Arts and Sciences degree. In 2019, I graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA with a B.S in Biology- Molecular and Cell Emphasis. At Western, I enjoyed doing basic science research using the model organism C. elegans. After graduating in 2019, I began working as a Research Scientist at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the Department of Microbiology. Here, I worked with enteroids (human “mini-guts”) and adeno-associated viruses. During my gap years, I also volunteered at the Marysville Food Bank, because I am passionate about reducing food insecurity and hunger in my community. I am interested in becoming a Pediatrician and would like to work towards combining my interests in reducing food insecurity in the community with my interest in practicing medicine.
