In humans, internalization of extracellular and plasma membrane-localized cargo through clathrin-independent endocytosis or CIE has been implicated in multiple diseases including various forms of cancers and Alzheimer’s disease. However, we still lack a basic understanding of the process of vesicle formation and cargo internalization by multiple CIE pathways. Here in the Kenworthy lab at UVa, I am interested in studying the role of molecular motors and microtubules in CIE vesicle formation at the plasma membrane and their subsequent internalization into the cell.
