Congratulations to Melissa Kendall, Associate Professor, Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology who was one of 3 faculty in the School of Medicine selected as University of Virginia Shannon Center Mid-Career Fellows for July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026. The Shannon Center Mid-Career Fellowship program was launched this year to honor up to 15 outstanding mid-career faculty from across the University who have made significant contributions to their departments and schools, but not yet chairholders of endowed professorships.
Shannon Fellows receive research support to advance research, scholarship and special projects. The Shannon Center for Advanced Studies stretches back more than 50 years. In 1994, the center was named in honor of former UVA President Edgar F. Shannon Jr. Over the last 20 years, the Shannon Center’s endowment funds have supported outstanding University faculty members.
