The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Virginia was established in the 1970s. At the core of the UVA’s successful MSTP has been and continues to be its strong and highly interactive biomedical research programs. We have continued this theme of integration in the architecture of our Program and these efforts have been met with great successes including the low attrition rates, high quality academic and research achievements of our students and the outstanding record of residency match results and subsequent longer-term career achievements of our graduates. Importantly, the UVA’s School of Medicine (SOM) has a long history of providing strong support to the MSTP and this commitment remains and promises to improve under the vision of the SOM’s Dean.
