Charlottesville Amenities
Student Lounge
Welcome to the Mulholland Society student lounge at the Charlottesville campus! The student lounge, located centrally in the Claude Moore Medical Education Building, boasts a wide range of amenities and serves as a central hub where UVA medical students regularly eat lunch, hold meetings, and study. Students may store their lunches in one of two refrigerators (one of which is equipped with an ice dispenser) and heat up their food in one of the three microwaves. The most popular destination is the designated “free table,” which holds any food left over from school or club events in an effort to reduce food waste—and medical students are always looking for a snack. In the other areas of the lounge, a ping-pong table and a foosball table are available for a study break game with friends. A grand piano, an electric piano, a few guitars, and a variety of musical scores can be used without reservation. There is a desktop computer that can be used for internet and electronic medical record system access. In the back corner resides a quieter nook with comfortable couches. This is also where inspiring artwork by fellow medical students is displayed. The shelves are full of medical textbooks, study aids, and flashcards that students can utilize at any time. Finally, the lounge serves as a storage space for many clubs’ materials. Stay tuned for updates being made in the coming months!
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our lounge manager, Ashley Lin.
VMED Gym
The UVA School of Medicine is proud to sport its very own gym space, made by students, for students. In 2022, a new space was acquired in the Elson Student Health Center at 400 Brandon Avenue in Charlottesville, and renovated into a functional gym with the financial support of the Medical Alumni Association. Equipment includes, but is not limited to:
- Squat racks
- Barbells
- Dumbbells
- Weight benches
- Pull up tower
- Treadmill
- Exercise bike
- Punching bag
- Multiuse cable machine
- Yoga mats
- Resistance bands
The gym space functions as a dedicated student-wellness hub, with additional offerings such as free student-led group fitness classes and personal training. Check out this VIDEO for more about wellness opportunities. Students can sign up for times to use the gym in advance HERE, to avoid crowding.
The medical school gym is run by two Gym Managers, Bess Renjilian and Danielle Rinaldi. This position is part of the Mulholland Society student government, and is voted on by the student body to ensure that the gym space and its offerings remain student-centered. The gym is also affiliated with a student-run club called VMed Strength, which assists with programming fitness classes and personal training.
