Several departments at UVA, including the Department of Pathology, collaborated with the Housestaff Community Development Initiative (HCDI) and Charlottesville’s City of Promise to host UVA Health Day Camp introducing local youth to the field of medicine. This was a day-long immersive experience which included various medical activities, mentorship panels and Q&As, and career exploration. PGY4 Ansley Scott and PGY2 Nouran Sinada led the anatomy lab portion of the camp, where the participants could observe and touch autopsy organs and learn about both normal and abnormal anatomy and disease processes. “It was a pleasure to be part of this event and spend time with the children,” reflected Dr. Sinada. “Sharing what I do as a doctor and giving them a glimpse into the world of medicine was incredibly rewarding. It’s always special to inspire young minds and spark their interest in how we help people through science.”
