Andrew Biesemier, M.D.

Hey Y’all! I’m Andrew Biesemier. I grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia, developing an interest in pathology from my father. I attended UVA for undergrad and then worked for a couple of years as a Histotech in Lynchburg and Jackson, Mississippi. I attended medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and completed my AS/CP pathology residency here at UVA. The experience was wonderful, a perfect balance of rigorous training and steadfast support from my faculty and co-residents. Even on the hardest days, I left the office fulfilled. I am grateful for the opportunity to attend numerous national and local conferences, including the CAP Residents Forum, USCAP, ISDP, and VSP. I look back particularly fondly on my involvement in medical student outreach and education, introducing the next generation of physicians to the field of pathology. I am thrilled to be staying at UVA for a fellowship in dermatopathology.

Outside of work, my wife Molly and I have our hands full raising three children: John (8), William (6), and Lainey (3), along with our Cairn Terrier, Odin, and German Shorthaired Pointer, Freya. In my free time, I enjoy fly fishing, having fished all over from Alaska to Belize. I love getting out into the boonies for some wilderness camping. You can often find me lifting weights in the resident gym or my garage, pushing for a 500-lb squat. Of course, I spend most of my time hanging out with my kids, ranking our favorite dinosaurs (Deinonychus), watching Bluey or Spider-Man, building LEGO, or playing Minecraft, Zelda, and Valheim. I also dabble in cookery, homebrewing, mixology, bourbon, and pickling vegetables.
