In many cases, Clostridium difficile infected patients relapse after antibiotic treatment. In mice, I am studying recurrent Clostridium difficile infection and the effect of Th-17 cells on the severity of recurrent disease. Our lab has previously seen that IL-17A+ Th17 cells proliferate in response to a Clostridium difficile infection. We have also seen that this same cell population exacerbates disease in mice. I am studying how C. difficile promotes this Th-17 response and the effect of these cells on disease severity in recurrent infection.
