UVA Pharmacology’s Dr. Kelsey Voss has received funding on her proposed project to study The role of iron metabolism in T cell subsets in type 1 diabetes from Breakthrough T1D, a nonprofit organization created to study Type 1 Diabetes.
Her lab’s mission is to increase fundamental knowledge of immunity by examining the regulation of metal metabolism in immune cells. They will investigate T cell metabolism within the context of inflammation and autoimmune diseases. They have defined mechanisms of cellular iron metabolism to modify T cell function and demonstrated that targeting iron metabolism in T cells can reduce autoimmunity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) by differential impacts on T cell subsets.
We look forward to your future research accomplishments Kelsey, congratulations!
