Rajesh Balkrishnan, PhD, Professor of Public Health Sciences, recently toured the state of Karnataka, India where he trained several groups of pharmacy and medical students in public health research by conducting workshops. Nearly 1,000 students attended the four workshops which were held in Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Harpanahalli.  In particular, Balkrishnan focused his talks on comparative effectiveness evaluations and conducting rural health program evaluations.

Dr. Balkrishnan plans to start a large study focused on childhood infection control in India in 2017 through education of mothers in very low income households in India on the importance of preventive health and hygiene behaviors in both pre-school and early-school-age

children. Dr. Balkrishnan will be working with the Association of Community Pharmacists of India, a Non Governmental Organization focused on pharmacy education on this study.
