Dr. Reza Daugherty, Director of Pediatric Imaging at UVA, appeared on the “UVA House Call” segment on NBC 29 on April 17 to speak about advances in imaging technology for pediatric patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). Children with this condition, in which urine can flow up from the bladder to the kidneys, are usually screened with x-rays, which exposes them to radiation. UVA is proud to be one of a small number of institutions in the United States offering a new screening procedure using ultrasound with contrast, which is just as accurate but which does not expose children to radiation.
