Dias Argandykov, MD

I feel incredibly privileged and grateful to be joining the UVA Surgery family as a PGY‑3 resident, having recently transferred from Massachusetts General Hospital, where I completed the first two years of my surgical training. Originally from Kazakhstan, I’m a graduate of Nazarbayev University School of Medicine—Kazakhstan’s first U.S.-style MD program, established in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh. After medical school, I moved to Boston, where I spent four years at MGH—first as a research fellow in the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery for two years, followed by two years of clinical training after matching into general surgery residency.

My academic interests have centered on health services and surgical outcomes research, with a particular focus on applying research methodologies to advance risk prediction, address health disparities, and optimize patient-reported outcomes and communication in clinical care.

Outside the hospital, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our daughter—playing tennis with my wife, and teaching our daughter how to swim and ski. We love being outdoors as a family and are excited to explore the beauty of Charlottesville and become part of the UVA community.
