Uzoma Ahiarakwe, MD, MS

Hello everyone! My name is Uzoma Ahiarakwe. I was raised in Sicklerville , NJ , which is in southern NJ approximately 25 minutes from Philadelphia. I grew up playing football, basketball and running track. Now I like to pretend I was an All-American athlete. I attended the University of Pittsburgh for my undergraduate studies where I majored in neuroscience. Pittsburgh is where I fell in love with clinical medicine and clinical research in neuroscience and the musculoskeletal system. I further advanced my education obtaining a Masters in Biomedical Science at Liberty University.  Upon my completion I would go on and complete my medical degree at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University formerly known as Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS).

I matched into Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at EVMS and chose to do a surgical prelim for the opportunity it would bring me to better understand the care for my patients. As a physiatrist a significant amount of my patients will undergo or have undergone surgery for their diagnosis at some point in their rehabilitation process. Understanding the indications, management and the medicine that comes with it will only strengthen me as a physician. I chose UVA because the opportunity provided to allow me to develop my craft and gain an understanding

In my spare time, I enjoy powerlifting, chatting with friends and family, and cooking. I am currently using this year to learn as much as I can and develop as a physician.
