Fourth Year Rotations

University of Virginia Kenan Yount, MD, Surgery teaches a Fourth Year Medical Student The University of Virginia Department of Surgery offers fourth year students (Phase 3) in-depth 4-week rotations, intended for students who are contemplating a career in surgery.

Students assist in inpatient care, outpatient clinic, surgeries, and academic conferences. Students are expected to assume responsibility for patients as acting interns, under the direct supervision of house staff on their team.

Students may also be responsible for case presentations or other academic activities. These responsibilities are designed to provide hands-on-experience and to prepare students for a career in academic surgery.

Rotations are available in the following disciplines:

  • Colorectal Surgery (Blue)
  • Bariatric & Minimally Invasive Surgery (Orange)
  • Hepatobiliary Surgery (Green)
  • Endocrine Surgery (Red)
  • Trauma and Emergency Surgery (EGS)

 

  • Breast & Melanoma Surgery (Gold)
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Transplant Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Cardiac Surgery
