Dea Mahanes, DNP, RN, CCNS, CNRN, HEC-C, FNCS, University of Virginia Center for Health Humanities and Ethics

Dea Mahanes, DNP, RN, CCNS, CCRN, CNRN, HEC-C, FNCS, has been a neuroscience nurse for more than 25 years and a member of the UVA Health Ethics and Moral Distress Consult Service for over 10 years. Dea completed her Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1994 and her Master of Science in nursing in 2003 from the University of Virginia School of Nursing.

In 2018, she received her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has a special interest in clinician-family communication as a way to support high-quality care and shared decision-making.
