Education

The Center for Health Humanities and Ethics offers ethics and humanities education for medical students, residents, and faculty in many different formats and venues.  In addition, Center faculty teach graduate and undergraduate courses in biomedical ethics and humanities across a number of UVA schools and programs.  Many of these courses are cross-listed in different disciplines to foster interdisciplinary and interprofessional education.

Undergraduate Collegiate Education. Among the semester-long courses taught by Center faculty for undergraduate students are Narratives of Illness and Doctoring (English), the History of Christian Ethics (Religious Studies), and the Bioethics Internship (Religious Studies).  Center faculty also offer a J-term course for undergraduates, Leadership and Ethics for Tomorrow’s Physicians.  The University of Virginia also has a Undergraduate Bioethics Program, through which students can minor in bioethics.

Graduate Education.Center faculty offer graduate-level courses in Foundations of Bioethics, Clinical Ethics, Law and Ethics of Human Subject Research, Legal Issues at the End of Life, and Disability Law and Ethics.
