CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and UVA Health held a web briefing with navigation outreach specialist Keyri Lopez-Godoy. Lopez-Godoy says that there are multiple barriers in Hispanic patients in completing the steps of their screenings. “The barriers that we are seeing in people not completing their colorectal cancer screenings are lack of awareness of guidelines and understanding what even colorectal cancer is,” Lopez-Godoy said. The other barriers that she said they have seen is fear of the unknown, and cost of the screenings and care if that patient were to have a medical concern. Read More >
