Research Interests
Regulatory mechanisms controlling expression of Salmonella invasion genes.
Research Description
Research is directed at understanding the regulatory mechanisms controlling expression of Salmonella invasion genes. These genes are located within a 40-kb Salmonella pathogenicity island-1 (SPI-1), and encode the type III secretion system and its effector proteins. Expression of SPI-1 genes is tightly regulated in response to a wide range of regulatory networks. Studies are in progress to understand how different regulators modulate expression of invasion genes in response to environmental signals.
