Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology

The Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is nationally recognized for excellence in clinical care and is currently ranked in the top 50 on U.S. News and World Report’s list of top programs.  Our division fosters an interdisciplinary approach to patient care and offers integrated services for a complete range of digestive disorders. We offer state of the art endoscopic care and through our extensive clinical trials program, patients have access to novel medical therapies. In addition, our liver transplant program is among the busiest in the southeast.

The mission of our Division is “To develop passionate leaders focused on excellence who provide innovative and compassionate clinical care and advance the field through research and education”.  We aspire to FOCUS on our core values:  Fervor to be Outstanding, Creative, Unsurpassed and Striving to make a difference.

Our faculty creates an environment that trains well rounded, high quality gastrointestinal physicians. Our program provides a complete educational experience that includes inpatient training, outpatient training, endoscopic training, clinical and translational research exposure, and medical education opportunities.

 

Fellowship Education

UVA’s Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship Program selects four candidates each year to train with a group of world-class faculty and researchers, all of whom are dedicated to providing fellows with a solid clinical foundation and mentoring their development as researchers and academic leaders.
