Surgical Simulation
Surgical Skills Training Center
Established in 2015, the University of Virginia School of Medicine’s Surgical Skills Training Center (SSTC) is a dedicated facility for procedural and surgical simulation. Housed within the Clinical Performance Education Center (CPEC), the SSTC features a state-of-the-art environment for hands-on learning and surgical skills development. The lab includes up to ten operative stations configurable for a wide range of procedures and is equipped with high-definition monitors, an operating microscope, a radiolucent surgical table, both large and mini-C-arm fluoroscopy units, power equipment, and a variety of surgical instruments and pans. This flexible and high-fidelity space supports medical learners across the continuum. In addition to learner education, the SSTC serves as a hub for faculty development, innovation in procedural education, and industry-sponsored training. The center regularly hosts simulation workshops and skills-based training sessions, offering a controlled environment to safely refine operative techniques.
