Research

The Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics has strengths in structural biology, cardiovascular biology, cancer biology, membrane biology, neurophysiology, and the biology of infectious diseases.  Department faculty pursue basic and translational research projects.  Department faculty are also closely affiliated with the Center for Membrane and Cell Physiology, the Robert M. Berne Center for Cardiovascular Research, and the Cancer Center.  Several department faculty also identify with the pan-university Global Infectious Diseases Institute.

Department faculty acquired in excess of $16M of external research funding in 2023.  Most of this comes from NIH, but some also from other federal agencies and private foundations.

The Department is home to the PIs of two-NIH funded training grants, namely in Cardiovascular Biology and Molecular Biophysics.
