UVA Radiology Faculty Honored in 2023 Research Achievement Awards

At the University of Virginia’s 2023 Research Achievement Awards event, UVA honored four faculty members from the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging.

These faculty members were among 130 honorees across the university who were celebrated during the February 1 celebration. It was the fifth annual event of its kind.

Congratulations to the department’s honorees, listed below:


 

Cree Gaskin, MD

Ziv Haskal, MD

Cree Gaskin, MD; and Ziv Haskal, MD were honored in the Nationally Recognized Award Winners & Members of Academies category for researchers who achieve notable recognition and acclaim at a national level. Dr. Gaskin’s work includes bone and soft tissue imaging, and he is a prominent voice in radiology informatics. Dr. Haskal’s research includes interventional procedures, and he is also the recipient of the Society of Interventional Radiology’s 2023 Gold Medal.


 

Christopher M. Kramer, MD

Christopher M. Kramer, MD received recognition as well, nominated by the School of Medicine dean for going “above and beyond” in his research contributions, his influence in the academic community, and his positive impact on society through his work. In addition to being a professor in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging, Dr. Kramer is also the chief of UVA’s Division of Cardiovascular Medicine; his research work includes cardiac imaging, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and peripheral arterial disease.


 

James R. Stone, MD, PhD

James Stone, MD, PhD was recognized as one of the Top 25 Sponsored Funding Recipients within the entire university system for Fiscal Year 2023. Dr. Stone’s is the department’s vice chair of research, and his work includes studying the risks of repeated blast exposures to the brain.
