Attendants of the Radiology Safety Fair had the opportunity to take pictures with “Mayhem,” the physical embodiment of the event’s theme.
“Avoid mayhem!”
This was the theme of the annual Radiology Safety Fair on February 20, hosted by the Radiology Safety Committee. Over 120 visitors attended the event to learn about safety topics in a fun setting – which featured candy, games, and gift card drawings, and more.
Founded in 2003, the safety committee’s purpose is to monitor and problem-solve issues within all divisions of UVA Radiology, as well as to increase safety awareness. It includes a member from each modality and work area, with representatives from UVA Medical Center, outpatient services, and the hospital mobility coach.
The fair itself was a true group effort. Members of the Safety Committee supervised various educational sections about safety topics, with special assistance from Physical Therapy Volunteers Naja Pressley and Nader Bashammakh. And UVA Physical Therapy’s Leslie Wood also provided homemade cupcakes to fuel the learning.
The event was also an opportunity to recognize a founding member and former chair of the Safety Committee: Vickie Taylor who retired from her position as radiology nurse manager this year. At the Safety Fair, she was honored with the presentation of a Jefferson Cup.
