Program Overview

UVA Radiology is accepting applications for a full-time Summer Marketing Intern.  This position is full-time and comes with a compensation rate of $15/hour. Daily transportation to and from the UVA Hospital is available through the UVA Transit System.

This internship program requires a full-time commitment (40 hours per week).  It is not permissible to take academic classes or hold other employment during the internship. There are no vacation days allowed during the program.

Your success will be driven by your willingness to learn and your ability to collaborate, bring a positive attitude, and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Supporting ongoing projects with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Creating social media ads, and tracking analytics to drive results
  • Crafting posts on our radiology blog, Inside View, as well as the news section of the departmental website, including ​​interviewing faculty, patients, techs, etc. for content and stories
  • Research physician contact information and update a Customer Relationship Management System
  • Assisting with developing and posting audience-specific content to various digital flat screens throughout the department and hospital
  • Updating and curating web content, and writing copy for Radiology’s departmental websites
  • Attending meetings; taking notes and minutes when necessary
  • Fulfilling special projects and tasks as assigned

Within the scope of our daily marketing operations, we provide access to a variety of marketing tools and resources for organization, design, and content development.  Through this internship, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to use these tools to learn how to craft and tailor messages and campaigns to specific audiences (from patients to peers in the medical field).

Our department is growing rapidly. If the chosen candidate is successful in their May – June 2020 internship, we may consider offering them a paid nine-month intensive Marketing Residency upon graduation in 2021.

Required Qualifications

In order for an applicant to be considered for this position, they must:

  • Be a current junior at Radford University, enrolled in the Marketing/Management degree program
  • Have at least a 3.00 GPA
  • Possess excellent writing, communication, and listening skills
  • Be able to analyze and interpret information quickly and accurately
  • Be capable of working well in a team environment
  • Possess strong planning and organizational skills
  • Be proficient in basic Microsoft Office software

Ideal Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs (InDesign and Photoshop).

  • Sample Blog Post given the following prompt: “Draft a 300-500 word blog article about the following “grateful patient” scenario: Sally McCall was nervous after her doctor told her she needed an MRI Enterography. But then she met with UVA Radiologist Dr. Drew Lambert, who told her what to expect during the exam and helped calm her fears. After her MRI Enterography, Sally was thrilled with the ease of the exam and the care she received at UVA.”
