Virginia Center for Diabetes Prevention & Education

The Virginia Center for Diabetes Prevention and Education (VCDPE) strives to provide evidence-based, high-quality education and training focusing on diabetes prevention and self-management to health professionals like diabetes educators and community health workers. Our goal is to improve quality and accessibility through innovative models of care for persons at risk for or with diabetes. VCDPE has been a unique provider of educational programming in Virginia since 1987, and is affiliated with the UVA Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Lifestyle Coach Training

We provide Lifestyle Coach Training for the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program. We offer in-person and virtual trainings, and can accommodate trainings in your area.

Tele-Education Classes

Diabetes Patient Tele‑Education has been a core program of the VCDPE since 2007. The program includes four recorded classes, each presented in two parts (eight modules total). Each module is about 20-30 minutes long. People with diabetes and their families can watch the classes at home, on their own schedule. Topics include The Basics of Diabetes, Nutrition Basics, Diabetes Self‑Management Skills, and Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Changes.
