Virginia Center for Diabetes Prevention & Education

The Virginia Center for Diabetes Prevention and Education (VCDPE) strives to provide evidence-based, high-quality education and training focusing on diabetes prevention and self-management to health care providers. Our goal is to improve quality and accessibility through innovative models of care for persons at risk for or with diabetes. VCDPE has been a unique provider of educational programming in Virginia since 1987, and is affiliated with the UVA Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Tele-Education Classes

Diabetes Patient Tele-Education has been a large focus of the VCDPE since 2007. The program is a series of four classes offered three times a year. The classes are: The Basics of Diabetes, Diabetes Self-Management Skills, Nutrition Basics, and Healthy Eating Lifestyle Changes. On average the program reaches 400 Virginians a year, providing diabetes self-management education in underserved and high-risk areas of the state.
