Ian Mesner is a data scientist. He received his BS in Computer Science from the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science and an MS Online Master of Science in Analytics from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Mesner’s data science projects involve risk modeling of hospital-acquired, readmission, and mortality, entity resolution of company names (LEI), optimization and validation of quantitative finance models, document classification, user segmentation, and projections of climate data. He has extensive experience developing software applications, including XML parsing, taxonomy development, semantic enrichment of text, enterprise resource planning, and content management systems.
In his early work as a programmer and software developer, Mesner designed, profiled, and converted database applications. As a data scientist for the University of Virginia Health System, Mesner contributed to research reducing hospital-acquired infections and maintained a data mart, bioinformatics pipeline, and risk modeling for infection control projects. He currently serves as Chief Software Architect for Cosmic, where he’s a technical leader, managing all choices for technology, software, and design across the organization. Mesner has co-authored papers that include research on Intensive Care Unit Wastewater Interventions and classifications for bioinformatic pipelines, which have led to publications.
