UVA Anesthesiology’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (JEDI) Committee recently took part in two community events welcoming students to Grounds for hands-on learning. The first event was held in partnership with Discover Medicine, in which we hosted around 30 high school students. UVA medical students and Alice Mooney served as our model volunteers. Instructors were Dr. Josh Roach, Dr. Melissa Byrne, Dr. Christian Renwick, Michelle Dawson, and Avani Jain. The high schoolers were able to perform echo on the models with the instructors’ guidance. They asked a lot of great questions and it was a great time! The second event was a collaborative event between UVA Anesthesiology, Surgery, Pathology, and the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia. We hosted students for a series of workshops in which they practiced intubation, CPR, stitching, and organ identification. Thank you to all who took part in organizing and leading these wonderful events!
