Former UVA Anesthesiology resident Mark Simcox, MD, has been appointed to the Virginia Board of Medicine by Governor Glenn Youngkin, following a nomination by Senator Todd Pillion. Dr. Simcox, a highly respected anesthesiologist with Virginia Highlands Anesthesia (VHA), brings decades of experience in patient care and medical leadership to this important role.

Dr. Simcox’s distinguished career began with a biology degree from Emory & Henry College (1984), followed by medical school at the University of Tennessee. He then completed his anesthesia residency at the University of Virginia in 1994. Since then, he has been practicing with Virginia Highlands Anesthesia, where he currently serves as President.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Simcox is a Vice President of the Medical Executive Committee at Johnston Memorial Hospital and serves on the Johnston Memorial Leadership Board. He is also an active member of the Virginia Society of Anesthesiologists, advocating for the field of anesthesiology at the state level.

His appointment to the Virginia Board of Medicine highlights the continued impact of UVA-trained physicians in shaping healthcare policy and ensuring quality medical care for Virginians.
