Veritas, the University of Virginia School of Medicine’s literary-arts publication, publishes original work by UVA medical students – writing, art and photography, and music – in print and on the web. Published annually in the spring since 1994, Veritas has been student-edited since 2000. Every fall, the organization also sponsors a medical student art exhibit, which is displayed in the Health Sciences Library. Veritas is a registered student organization that receives Student Council funding. Marcia Day Childress, core Center faculty member, is the faculty adviser to Veritas.
Launched in Fall 2006, Hospital Drive is an on-line journal that publishes original creative work – poems, short fiction, personal essays, reviews, photography, visual art, audio, and video – examining themes of health, illness, and healing. Submissions are open to anyone, but preference is given to those involved in providing, teaching, studying, or researching patient care. Issues are released at least once each year, and include invited work. Center director Daniel Becker is editor-in-chief of Hospital Drive.
