The goals of the CPH Program of the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center (UVACCC) are to investigate modifiable cancer risk and disparities and develop and implement interventions that reduce the burden of cancer in the UVACCC catchment area and beyond. CPH provides funds for projects focused on cancer equity & disparities (emphasis on racial/ethnic disparities), cancer precision prevention & epidemiology, cancer screening, cancer control implementation science, and cancer survivorship. Two funding mechanisms are described below:
CPH Seed Funding – primarily intended to initiate ready-to-go projects and to generate data for NIH R01 or equivalent proposals. Examples of supported activities include, but are not limited to, staffing for mailing, conducting interviews, or data collection/analysis; incentives to recruit participants to a planned study; or equipment to be used among an established participant pool. Applications are accepted year-round but will be reviewed three times per year: April, August, and December.
Award Size: Up to $20,000 (direct costs only) for 1 year.
Deadline: Closed (RFA to be released each June).
CPH Pilot Awards – CPH Pilot Projects are sponsored by a larger pool of CPH funding for new projects that have not yet been established. Priority will be given to proposals that clearly state and demonstrate a strong likelihood of progressing to an external grant proposal relevant to NCI programmatic areas. Pilot Project proposals will be peer-reviewed by CPH members, as well as by the UVACCC Community Advisory Council when appropriate.
Award Size: Up to $50,000 (direct costs only) for 1 year.
Deadline: Closed (RFA to be released each June).
Eligibility: Both mechanisms are open to UVA faculty. Team applications are encouraged and must include at least one CPH member.
