The GEN Program of the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center provides seed funds for new projects from GEN members that address the accumulation of heritable genetic and epigenetic changes that result in the loss of tumor suppressors and inappropriate activation of proto-oncogenes. The goals of GEN are to understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie these defects to unleash the potential of precision medicine. GEN has a basic science focus and capitalizes on the large number of outstanding investigators at UVA with research expertise in chromatin architecture, transcription, replication, DNA repair, genomics, epigenomics, and cellular checkpoints in cancer. Program members are organized into three thematic areas: 1) chromosome function, malfunction, and cellular checkpoints; 2) changes in gene expression and epigenetics that drive cancer; and 3) cancer bioinformatics.
Award: Up to $50,000 (direct costs only) for 1 year.
Eligibility: This award is open to UVA faculty. Team applications are encouraged and must include at least one GEN member.
Deadline: Closed (RFA to be released each June).
Contact for Questions: Please contact Hui Li, PhD (hl9r@virginia.edu) or Todd Stukenberg, PhD (pts7h@virginia.edu) with questions and to discuss project alignment.
