Serving patients within about a 120-nautical-mile radius of Charlottesville, the upgraded helicopter will help limit out-of-hospital time for critically ill patients—like ones in need of a counter pulsation heart pump and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support—by providing an alternative to ground critical care ambulances.
