A Message from the Director
Dr. Timothy Layng, Director of Emergency Medicine Informatics
Welcome to the Clinical Informatics Division of the Department of Emergency Medicine at UVA Health! We are a fast-paced, innovative team at the forefront of healthcare technology, working hand-in-hand with our physicians, nurses, and staff to bring data-driven change to not only our department, but Emergency Medicine as a whole.
Our division structure focuses on a robust EHR build that ultimately facilitates streamlined and detailed data retrieval. This is accomplished by two Physician-Analyst Dyads.
- The Physician-Build Dyad is composed of a 1:1 relationship between a Physician Lead (Timothy Layng, DO) and a Build Analyst (Justin Baldassano). Weekly meetings are held to strategize and prioritize EHR build, with an ultimate goal of streamlining workflows and aligning our EHR with recommendations for our vendor, Epic.
- The Physician-Data Partnership is composed of a 1:1 relationship between a Physician Lead (Moira Smith, MD, MPH) and a Data Analyst (Noel Mukubwa). Weekly meetings are held to triage ED data requests and strategize EHR reporting build such as dashboards or refining self-service data tools such as SlicerDicer.
