Hospital Medicine

We are a growing group of over 40 academic hospitalists with a strong foundation of excellence in clinical medicine, medical education, and quality improvement. Faculty in our group hold numerous leadership roles at the School of Medicine and UVA Health. Our goal is to serve as experts in the care of hospitalized adults, to teach learners at all levels of medical education, and to promote excellence in quality improvement and patient safety.

Faculty enjoy practicing in a 600-bed quaternary care hospital in Central Virginia that serves both Charlottesville’s urban and suburban areas and surrounding rural and suburban areas. Our academic practice provides faculty with a diverse mixture of traditional teaching wards, co-management of oncology and orthopedic surgical patients, and direct care clinical services supported by faculty development, mentorship, and coaching.

The foundation of our success is our people – we seek to recruit and retain outstanding clinicians with the motivation to excel in academic medicine and contribute to our mission. As a division, we commit to maintaining challenging and rewarding clinical roles and allowing individuals to pursue their academic interests. We also recognize our role in promoting and supporting the success of underrepresented physicians and commit to providing the necessary mentorship and support to ensure each faculty member’s success in their career trajectory.
