Education

Masters of Science in Clinical Nutrition, Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA
Bachelor of Science in Dietetics – Marywood College, Scranton, PA.

Experience

Joe has 20 years of clinical experience, and has been at UVA for the past 15 years.   He is one of the lead dietitians of the Nutrition Support Team-Medicine responsible for inpatient nutrition support consults, GI/Nutrition Support Clinic, and the Home Nutrition Support Team.  Joe also leads the team’s research activities.

Joe and Carol Parrish co-developed and run the 5-day Nutrition Support Traineeship and the 2-day Weekend Warrior nutrition support programs at UVA.

Interests

Joe has authored/co-authored articles on a variety of subjects including indirect calorimetry, renal failure, immunonutrition, pancreatitis, hepatic failure, and the GI section of the ASPEN Core-Curriculum.  He co-authors UVA’s E-journal club.
