MISSION

residents at capitol

Residents at Capitol Hill

To develop participating residents’ skills needed to advocate for improved health outcomes in populations facing systemic social and health inequities. This program is centered on residents developing an in-depth understanding of (1) The social drivers of health for individuals and communities throughout our commonwealth; (2) The community-based organizations that work towards mitigating many of the factors leading to widely disparate health outcomes around us; (3) The role that each of us can serve in working collaboratively towards health equity in our community; and (4) developing unique expertise and training to serve better specific populations that face social and health inequities.

Through the development of this program, the mentors and trainees would additionally contribute to enhancing the UVA Department of Medicine’s community health impact and improving cultural competency in our clinical settings.

To ensure this distinction program aligns with each resident’s unique interests, residents will individualize their participation in some clinical and non-clinical experiences detailed in the link above.
