Among 130 hospitals in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the University of Virginia Hospital was ranked #1 by the U.S. News & World Report in 2016.  Also in 2016, UVA Nephrology was ranked #46 in nation by the U.S. News & World Report.  UVA is ranked in the top 25 medical schools in the nation.   The University of Virginia offers training to over 790 residents and fellows in 73 ACGME-accredited specialties and subspecialties.

The Department of Medicine is the largest and most clinically active within the University of Virginia Health System. We serve the medical needs of Virginia and large portions of the surrounding states. The Internal Medicine Residency Program is one of the strongest in the nation and attracts a large number of highly competitive applicants from across the country.  Interacting with over 100 internal medicine and other highly qualified residents managing a wide variety of cases in a state of the art academic setting provides ample opportunity for our trainees to advance their knowledge and teaching skills.
