Dr. Anne Kenworthy Appointed as Vice Chair of Research for MPBP

I am pleased to announce that our colleague Dr. Anne Kenworthy has been appointed as the Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics, effective February 1, 2025 – January 31, 2027.

Dr. Kenworthy is a senior faculty member in the department and serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Membrane and Cell Physiology (CMCP). She brings considerable leadership experience to this role through her service as chair of the departmental Promotion & Tenure Committee, co-chair of faculty search committees for both the department and Center, and membership on the MPBP Chair Advisory Committee.  She also is currently a member of the UVA Faculty Senate and is an alumna of UVA’s Leadership in Academic Matters (LAM) program.

As Vice Chair of Research, Dr. Kenworthy will lead efforts to strengthen and expand the department’s research enterprise, including:

  • Identifying opportunities for growth and areas for improvement.
  • Spearheading initiatives to secure large research and training grants.
  • Organizing and overseeing the department’s annual retreat activities.
  • Leading the annual promotion-tenure review process for junior faculty.
  • Advancing new initiatives to enhance the department’s research mission.

Dr. Kenworthy’s leadership and vision will be key in driving innovation and strengthening our collaborative research environment. I look forward to working with her to further the department’s research and education missions.
