Cancer Center Research Faculty Welcomes Heman Shakeri, PhD

The Cancer Center research faculty welcomes Assistant Professor of Data Science, Heman Shakeri, PhD, to the Molecular Genetics and Epigenetics Program.

Dr. Shakeri’s research focuses on utilizing machine learning in cancer research for snapshot single-cell data, dynamical systems in live cell data, and functional data analysis, extending to algorithm development in machine learning and network science, computational statistics, and data-driven identification.

Before joining UVA in 2019, Dr. Shakeri was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Institute of Computational Comparative Medicine at Kansas State University, where he researched the statistical analysis of structures and functions of complex natural and technologically interconnected networks, developed methodologies in statistical learning, data analysis, and sampling and analyzed multi-drug resistance networks and their evolutions.

Dr. Shakeri earned his BS and MS in mechanical engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology and his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Kansas State. Welcome, Dr. Shakeri!
