Melissa Kendall, PhD, Joins Cancer Center Research Faculty
The Cancer Center welcomes Associate Professor of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology Melissa Kendall, PhD, to its Cancer Biology Program.
Dr. Kendall studies how microbes influence colonic health. Her research focuses on regulatory circuits that enable pathogenic bacteria to establish infection and on how archaea promote gut homeostasis.
In 2023, she received a $2.4 million grant to study how bacterial pathogens use RNA binding proteins to reprogram gene expression for niche adaptation and colonization.
Dr. Kendall earned her PhD in Environmental Sciences and Resources: Microbiology from Portland State University. Join us in welcoming Dr. Kendall to UVA and the Cancer Center!
