Muge Kuyumcu-Martinez, PhD, Joins Cancer Center Research Faculty
The Cancer Center welcomes Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics, Muge Kuyumcu-Martinez, PhD, to its Molecular Genetics and Epigenetics Program.
Dr. Kuyumcu-Martinez’s research interests include the role of RNA regulatory networks and RNA binding proteins during heart development and in cardiovascular disease. Her laboratory’s focus is on understanding post-transcriptional gene regulation by RNA binding proteins in the heart. Dr. Kuyumcu-Martinez was awarded a $2.1 million NIH R01 grant last fall titled, “The role of RNA binding proteins in heart development and congenital heart defects.”
She earned her doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine in Molecular Virology in 2003 where she studied the role of RNA Binding Proteins in virus mediated host cell mRNA translation shutoff. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kuyumcu-Martinez to UVA and the Cancer Center!
