Timothy Martin, PhD, Joins Cancer Center Research Faculty

Martin, TimothyThe Cancer Center welcomes Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, Timothy Martin, PhD, to its Cancer Biology Program. Dr. Martin’s research focuses on cancer biology, tumor immunology, and cancer genetics. He uses unbiased genetic screening systems to find ways to target cancer cells by identifying tumor vulnerabilities with common driver mutations. Recently, his team used in vivo CRISPR screens to study how cancer cells evade the immune system and identify drug targets that boost anti-tumor immunity, especially in cancers resistant to immunotherapy.

Dr. Martin earned his BS in Chemistry and PhD in Pharmacology from the University of North Carolina, followed by postdoctoral training in Genetics at Harvard University and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Dr. Martin is eager to collaborate at UVA and UVACCC. Outside work, he enjoys exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains with his partner, Danielle Cook, PhD, Assistant Professor of Hematology & Oncology, and their dog Calvin. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Martin!
