CPH Program Welcomes Katharine Daniel, PhD

Daniel, KatherineThe Cancer Center welcomes Katharine Daniel, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences, to its Cancer Prevention and Population Health Research Program.

Dr. Daniel studies how anxiety shapes behavior (e.g., someone who excessively seeks reassurance from medical professionals or demands high-frequency scans). She focuses on investigating the real-world effects of anxiety and emotion dysregulation to help individuals better navigate the complex emotional challenges of living with cancer. Specifically, Dr. Daniel identifies how personalized emotion regulation skills can reduce anxiety and disrupt potential unhelpful behaviors.

She develops and tests digital mental health interventions (DMHIs) for mobile phones and uses intensive time series methods to understand the efficacy of implementing context-aware emotion regulation DMHIs.

Dr. Daniel earned her MA and PhD in clinical psychology from UVA in 2017 and 2024 respectively, and completed her fellowship in clinical psychology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Daniel to the Cancer Center!
