UVACCC Research Faculty Welcome Dr. Thomas Shin

Headshot of Thomas ShinUVACCC welcomes Assistant Professor of Surgery Thomas Shin, MD, PhD, to its Cancer Prevention and Population Health Research Program.

Dr. Shin researches links between inflammation, obesity, metabolic health, the immune system, and cancer. His interests include metabolic syndrome, immunometabolic diseases, carcinogenesis, breast cancer, and how bariatric surgery may affect cancer risk. He also explores AI integration in surgical care and education.

Dr. Shin earned a BA in economics from Dartmouth College and his MD and PhD from Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. He completed a surgery and bariatric surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Welcome, Dr. Shin!
