UVACCC Welcomes Lu Gan, PhD

Headshot of Lu GanUVACCC welcomes Associate Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics, Lu Gan, PhD, to its Molecular Genetics and Epigenetics Research Program.

Dr. Gan studies how cells control chromosome structure at the molecular level, comparing cancerous and non-cancerous cells to understand how cancer alters the genome in 3D. Dr. Gan specializes in cryogenic electron tomography, a high-resolution method to study cells’ molecular structures in close-to-life conditions, and correlative cryogenic light-and-electron microscopy, a hybrid method to localize specific structures in cells’ framework to study how nucleosomes form larger chromosome structures in human and yeast cells, advancing understanding of the structural basis of gene expression.

Dr. Gan earned his PhD in structural biology from Scripps Research, completed postdoctoral training at Caltech, and was a faculty member at the National University of Singapore before joining UVACCC. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Gan!
