The next quarterly SWVA Community Advisory Board meeting is on Thursday, June 1st, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Abingdon Higher Education Center. The event will be held both in-person and virtually. Virtual participants will receive a Zoom link. Please RSVP. Full agenda to follow
Health Expo hosted by the Health Wagon at the Wise County fairgrounds in July on the 18th, 29th, and 30th from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. UVACC will be in attendance. More details to follow.
Past Event Information:
Move Mountains Medical Missions, an annual event expanding free medical, dental and vision care formerly offered by The Health Wagon and Remote Area Medical (RAM). Move Mountains Medical Missions will be hosted by The Health Wagon at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Wise, Virginia. The Health Wagon will collaborate with the Virginia Dental Association Foundation’s Mission of Mercy project to provide dental care. Mission of Mercy dental clinic will be held simultaneously at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise’s Convocation Center. Free medical, dental and vision services will continue to be offered, including stronger access to specialty and diagnostic health care services. The new health outreach will likely include longtime founding partner The Lions Club.

During this two-day in-person event, research and community efforts to address disparities across the catchment area will be highlighted
Day 1 | November 15
3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Community partners and Cancer Center members will hear how community-based organizations are addressing the cancer burden in Virginia. A short community presentation will be given followed by a networking reception for researchers and community partners.

8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Cancer Center members and community partners will learn about the latest in health disparities programs and research. Topics will focus on:

- Cancer Health Disparities Research

The task force aims to prioritize, act on, and decrease cancer disparities in the region, ensuring proactive cancer screenings and vaccinations. The next meeting is scheduled for July 22, 1- 3 pm, at the United Way Meeting Space in Danville. For more information, contact Ashley Banegas.
COE and Every Women’s Life Program will be at Northside Library on October 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. COE will be offering cancer screening information and navigation services.
