Present on cancer screenings and offer cancer screening navigation services
Join this event for the remarkable true story of Henrietta Lacks. Following the screening, there will be a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring ethics, medical history, and the impact of Henrietta Lacks’ legacy. This event is sponsored by partners: Calvary Baptist Church, Westmoreland Neighborhood Organization, UVA Cancer Center, Sovah Health, and Piedmont Pan-Hellenic Council.
To provide health, legal, and community services to community members who are returning from incarceration. COE will be providing cancer screening navigation services and connecting attendees with local resources.
Participating Health & Wellness organizations will give FUN FAIR attendees who stop at their table/tent to learn about their services a raffle ticket. Attendees can use the raffle tickets to enter into drawings for prizes. Prize drawings will take place at 4:45 pm (you do not need to be present to win – we can call you).

The University of Virginia (UVA) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Cancer Center Offices of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) will hold a joint retreat to review key initiatives from the past year, discuss current outreach, education, and navigation programs, and explore areas for future collaboration. Presentations will highlight the populations served, program implementation, and team efforts. The retreat will also include breakout working sessions to develop action plans for 2024-2025, with a focus on shared priorities and potential cross-cutting activating in overlap areas.
Free Screenings and Information on insurance, medicare, heart health, massage, yoga, home health, and more. UVACC COE will be in attendance for cancer-related information and navigation. Providing cancer screening navigation services with a monthly educational focus on certain cancer types and/or cancer prevention information. A COE Navigation Team member will be present to provide cancer-related navigation services.
The UVA Health Office of Diversity and Community Engagement is partnering with Mount Zion First African Baptist Church and other community partners to offer the church’s 3rd Annual Men’s Health Day Event: Know Your Numbers. Through LabCorp, blood testing for CBC (complete blood count), lipids, prostate, and hemoglobin A1c will be provided free of charge. Clothing, haircuts, food, and information on community resources also will be available.
A UVA COE Team member will be available for cancer-related education and navigation.
