Welcome from the Chair

Taison Bell, MD, MBA, FIDSA
It is an extraordinary privilege to serve as Acting Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia. This department has a long legacy of excellence in patient care, education, and research—and I am honored to build on that foundation alongside such talented and dedicated colleagues.
Our department’s strength lies in our people. We are committed to fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and innovation. Whether we are advancing new treatments through groundbreaking research, delivering compassionate care to our patients, or training the next generation of physician leaders, we do so with a shared purpose: to improve lives and health in our community and beyond.
As we look ahead, we face both challenges and exciting opportunities in healthcare—from growing our research enterprise to reimagining care delivery to better serve patients across Virginia and beyond. However, I am confident that by working together, we can continue to lead and inspire.
I hope our website provides you with a glimpse of our work and the extraordinary individuals in our department. Please feel free to contact my office if you would like to learn more.
