Meet the Team

Katia Sol-Church, PhD., is the Director of the GATC.  She is a Research Professor in the Department of Pathology, with 17 years’ experience in core operation.  Dr. Sol-Church has a long-standing record of successful collaborative research with clinicians and scientists, including early career scientists, leading to the publication of more than 60 peer reviewed articles.  She is a recognized leader in the core community for her work in support of research rigor and reproducibility and core sharing and sustainability.   Dr. Sol-Church will work closely with the Faculty Advisor, Dr. Yuh Hwa Wang and Director of Research Infrastructure, Dr. Jay Fox to enhance the core NGS capabilities and develop the core as a scientific resource for UVA investigators.

Yongde Bao, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Research with expertise in analytical chemistry and Biotechnology including bioinformatics analysis of gene expression and NGS data set.  Dr. Bao is a veteran in the lab with 22 years of experience in core operation.  He has served as the DNA Sciences Core Director and was instrumental in establishing the first core NGS services at UVA. He has been active with the core community as a research group member, notably with the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities.   He is also ad hoc editor/reviewer for a number of biotechnical journals. Dr. Bao leads the daily operation of the GATC sequencing facility located in room 1044.

Alyson Prorock, M.S., brings to the core a unique set of skills due to her undergraduate training in process engineering and her graduate training in biomedical engineering.  Ms. Prorock leads the daily operation of the GATC preparative lab located in room 1076, as well as run the single cell RNASeq pipeline for the core.  Her primary responsibility is to execute new workflow for NGS library preparation, support the sequencing core and facilitate iLab access.
